Solid Male Performances

A History of Violence is a solid, watchable movie. Fast-moving with excellent performances from the majority of the male stars, Viggo Mortensen / Ed Harris / William Hurt. Disappointing effort from Maria Bello who plays the wife, and the kid playing the son was more than a twinge annoying. The Director paints a too-perfect picture of a loving family and a perfect couple dragged into a ghastly and brutal situation where things and people are not as they seem. The violence is often shocking but the movie kicks along pretty quickly and is definitely worth watching. Viggo Mortensen gives a good performance opposite both Ed Harris and William Hurt. Extra points for two graphic sex scenes which were more cringe-worthily uncomfortable than sexy, but give the movie a more gritty realism.
