Best Thing: Another great Australian film. It's one not to be missed.
"December Boys" is like so many of the brilliant Australian films released in 2006/7 - one that you can't take your eyes from, thanks to to acting and the highest calibre in terms of acting, but more than that, and I've said it before, but this is yet another remarkable achievement in Australias artistic history and like the recent "Candy, 2:37, The Caterpillar Wish,Jinabyne,Irresistble, Clubland, and last but not least, even the froth and bubble of Razzle Dazzle" why,? because they all have their own storie's to tell, it's these films that tell "Our" storie's, and December Boys is another fine example of how important Australian cinema is and it will make you proud to be Australian for so many reasons. Written by Marc Rosenberg, Directed by Rod Hardy and based on the classic novel by Michael Noonan, December Boys is the story of four orphan teenagers growing up behind closed doors of a Catholic convent during the 1960's. As the boys watch the younger kids get adopted by loving families, they begin to wonder as they get older if their turn will ever come. When the convent sends the boys to the seaside one summer, they finally have something to look forward to,but,it's that summer that changes everything forever. While at the seaside they meet a couple unable to have children, the eldest of the boys,(Maps)played by the amazing Daniel Radcliffe who proves yet again that he can go way beyond "Harry Potter" just as he did in the stage production of "Equus" finds himself drawn to (Lucy) played by 2006 AFI Award Nominie for "Best Actress "(2:37)Teresa Palmer,a beautiful girl from down the coast. Competing to be the most adoptable, the other members,Christian Byers(Spark)James Fraser (Spit) and Lee Cormie (Misty) sererely test their friendships as long gestating feelings of rejection explode to the surface. The bonds of friendship eventually overcome the rivalries, sealing forever the strong ties that bind the December Boys as they learn the real meaning of family, love and friendship. The outstanding supporting cast includes Sullivan Stapleton, Victoria Hill, and Jack Thompson as Bandy McAnsh. For me, December Boys couldn't be better, the fact that it was filmed in South Australia and around Adelaide makes it even more appealing and enjoyable to watch, so please take the time to see this film, but, really appreciate and continue to support Australian Cinema.
