Best Thing: 100% Australian
Worst Thing: A movie like this didn't happen sooner
Many will be surprised that this is a 100% Australian film
Gabriel is the last of seven arcs - angels - sent in to battle for souls that takes place in an apocalyptic, modern-day purgatory. The six arcs before him have failed to halt the rise in power of their seven 'dark' nemesis who are moving closer to total control.
I enjoyed almost every element of the film. If you enjoyed the Matrix and that genre of film this should especially appeal. There are several key similarities in general story (good and underdog against a rising evil), visuals and setting (this may be shot in full technicolour but apocalyptic purgatory is not a colourful place). While the effects are not quite on the Matrix-level few movies are and considering the budget this movie punches so far above its weight.
This is an Australian made-film although the movie itself provides no clue besides the occasional accent. It could easily have been a big-budget Hollywood production and I sincerely hope the fact it was made here does not harm its appeal.
I thoroughly enjoyed almost every aspect of the film and from what I read about the genesis, the number of first timers in this they have created an amazing movie that deserves every bit of local and international success.
