Best Thing: The down south Aesthetic
Worst Thing: slow beginning
let me begin by stating that I am a huge Kate Hudson fan.
I really dig her bo-ho married at 21 - baby by 23 - cooler than her mum Goldie Hawn thing. This movie though a slow starter does really well at building suspense and allowing the audience to suspend their disbelief.
It capitalises greatly on the deep south, voo-doo, swamp shanty alligator new orleans thing...which adds to the air of mystery and horror.
It is a shame that black comedy of the twist in the tail is not injected into the narrative earlier on to separate this film above the horror/thriller cliches it relies on a bit too much.
However, with an ending like that coupled with kate hudson I am willing to forgive.
