Matthew Fox Biography

Born 07/14/1966

This handsome, earthy actor played the older brother in dramatic series "Party of Five" (Fox, 1994-2000) about five siblings orphaned by the sudden death of both parents. Fox brought warmth to the character of Charlie Salinger, a carpenter by trade, who sported shoulder-length hair and a constant four-day growth of beard. He landed his first role as a regular playing Danny Foley on the short-lived "Freshman Dorm" (CBS, 1992), a dramatic series focusing on the trials and tribulations of six students entering college in Southern California. Fox starred in the CBS Schoolbreak Special "If I Die Before I Wake" (1993), about the tragic loss of a high school track team in an airplane crash, and made his feature film debut in "My Boyfriend's Back" (1993), a teenage comedy about a high school student who returns from the dead to fulfill his wish of dating the prom queen. Fox, who eschewed film offers while working on the series, earned strong notices for his work in the 1999 CBS TV-movie "Behind the Mask", playing a mentally handicapped man.

In 2002, Fox co-starred in the short-lived UPN television series "Haunted," but he found a winning vehicle when he was cast as the cool-under-pressure physician Jack, the lead in "Lost" (ABC, 2004 - ), a clevery written adventure drama from J.J. Abrams that featured 48 survivors of a plane crash marooned on a seemingly deserted island.
