Culled from more than 1,000 hours of original footage, a cinema verite chronicle of the lives of the Sims-Wilson family in Queens, NY. Bill Sims is an African-American blues musician, his wife Karen Wilson is a white corporate manager. They have been married for over 20 years, and have two daughters. Both have struggled for more than 30 years against racial stereotypes and societal prejudices that have tried, sometimes viciously, to divide them. While racial tensions outside of the family impinge on their lives, especially when elder daughter Cicily faces exclusion from black students at college, many of their familial issues are less politically charged: Bill faces alcoholism and Karen has health problems.
