Fugitive Pieces (2007)

As a young boy in Nazi-occupied Poland, Jacob witnesses the massacre of his family but does not know the fate of his beloved sister Bella. He is rescued by Athos (Rade Sherbedgia won best actor at Rome), an archaeologist, who smuggles him home to Greece. They migrate to Toronto at the end of the war and it is here that the adult Jacob's life unravels as his preoccupation with the past encroaches on his capacity to engage with the present.
