As narrated by Jeff Bridges, L.A. artists in the late 50s and early 60s struggled for recognition in the predominantly east coast art establishment. The film focuses on the Ferus Gallery, owned by Walter Hopps and Irving Blum, which supported artists such as Ed Kienholz, Ed Ruscha, Larry Bell, John Altoon and Billy Al Bengston. Equally important, the gallery challenged the notion that the only good art was from New York or Europe.
