On the Way to School (2008)

In Turkey, recently qualified schoolteachers are obliged to teach for one year in regional Kurdish communities. All lessons must be in Turkish, although very few villagers speak anything but Kurdish. Emre, is the only teacher in a remote one-room school, and at first he finds it hard to get the kids to turn up and when they do, their lack of Turkish makes for some hilarious misunderstandings. Nonetheless, Emre doggedly teaches the official language with seemingly little rancour from either kids or parents, despite strained relations between the two cultures.
