John Hurt returns to the incorrigible and always colourful life of writer, raconteur and gay icon Quentin Crisp more than 30 years after first playing the role in 1975's The Naked Civil Servant. An Englishman in New York picks up Crisp's story in the 70s, where a frank TV interview sees him pilloried by the British public. Realising he's finished in England, Crisp decides - at the age of 70 - to start again in the US. Endlessly quotable, always controversial and never apologetic, Crisp is a consummate entertainer.
