Turkish Hulya is kidnapped by her own family and forcibly taken back to Turkey from her home in Germany. Too independent, and possibly too close to her female friend for her family's comfort, Hulya is expected to conform to a traditional woman's role now that she is back. Huyla is deeply unhappy, and rebels by refusing to eat or talk. Eventually she escapes, but encounters many hardships in her attempt to return to Germany. She collapses from exhaustion, must avoid the police, and is thrown into a lunatic asylum, but never gives up hope of resuming her life.
