A masseur is suing Hollywood star John Travolta, claiming the actor touched him inappropriately during a massage session.

E! News reports the lawsuit, filed by an anonymous man, accuses Travolta of assault and sexual battery.

The masseur says he was hired after Travolta saw his ad online. During the massage appointment, the plaintiff alleges Travolta stripped off before touching him inappropriately.

He says he told Travolta that sex with clients was not an option, however he claims the actor still offered to give him a "reverse massage", before telling him he had made it in Hollywood "due to sexual favours".

The masseur, who says he was paid double his hourly rate before being sent away, is now seeking $US2 million and punitive damages from Travolta.

In a statement released to E! News, Travolta's representatives have denied the allegations.

"This lawsuit is complete fiction and fabrication. None of the events claimed in the suit ever occurred. The plaintiff, who refuses to give their name, knows that the suit is a baseless lie.

"On that date when plaintiff claims John met him, John was not in California and it can be proved that he was on the East Coast. Plaintiff's attorney has filed this suit to try and get his 15 minutes of fame. John intends to get this case thrown out and then he will sue the attorney and Plaintiff for malicious prosecution."
