Lupita Nyong'o's stolen dress thrown over balcony

Lupita Nyong'o's stolen Academy Awards dress was thrown over the hotel balcony.

It has remained a mystery to police how the custom Calvin Klein gown wore by the '12 Years A Slave' star was taken from her hotel room after the Oscars last Sunday (22.02.15) night but the thief has since revealed that they took the dress and threw it over her balcony to another person, gossip website TMZ reports.

The thief is believed to have taken two pearls off the dress before taking them to a valuer, who revealed they were actually fake.

The garment has since been recovered abandoned in a bathroom at The London Hotel in West Hollywood where the 31-year-old actress was staying.

In a recent statement, Lupita said: "I'm happy that it has been potentially recovered. It's a timeless and priceless piece of art."

Francisco Costa, the women's creative director at Calvin Klein Collection added: "All of us at Calvin Klein are thrilled to know that the dress has potentially been located.

"This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her.

"Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand."

A dress that resembles Lupita's Oscars gown was found under a counter in the bathroom in a black garment bag after police received a tip off from a media outlet.
