Expendables for the small screen

Sylvester Stallone is set to take 'Expendables' to the small screen.

The legendary actor - who stars as Barney Ross in the trilogy of films and co-wrote the movies - will be lending his support to a TV version of the popular action films, Deadline reports.

Fox is backing 'The Expendables', an event series which is based on the movies, and the 68-year-old actor will be executive producing the adaptation for the small screen.

Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward are to write the script alongside showrunner Shane Brennan whilst the films' producer Avi Lerner will also lend a hand by executive producing the TV event alongside Sylvester.

The show is yet to be cast but it is expected that TV action heroes will be taking the roles similar to those made famous by the likes of Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford.

It is not the first time a TV version of 'The Expendables' has been considered. Back in 2012, it was rumoured there would be a show based on the movies made for the small screen.

The three feature films have grossed nearly $800 million worldwide and there is already two sequels in the mix. A female version, called 'The Expendabelles', is also in the works.
