Cate Blanchett names baby girl Edith

Cate Blanchett has named her new daughter Edith Vivian Patricia Upton.

The 'Blue Jasmine' actress and husband Andrew Upton, who also have three sons, Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, six, revealed their baby girl's moniker shortly after announcing they recently adopted the tot.

The Oscar-winning actress first sparked rumours she had become a mother for the fourth time after being spotted holding the newborn while collecting her sons from school in Sydney earlier this week.

And a spokesperson for the 45-year-old star confirmed the news on Friday (06.03.15), saying: "The Upton family have adopted a baby girl. No further details will be provided."

The 'Australian' actress previously admitted she was eager to have a bigger family.

She said: "I'd love to have more children. Just when, I don't know. But the thing is, we hadn't planned any of the others. They just popped out. So you shouldn't over-plan these things. If it happens, it would be great."

The Oscar winner married playwright and theatre director Andrew, 49, in 1997 and he previously claimed empathy was the key to their long-lasting relationship.

Asked about their marriage in 2013, he told the Sydney Morning Herald: ''You do have to try and, even when you know you're right, work out why your partner thinks they're right. It's got to be more important to do it together than to be right."
