David Duchovny is "sceptical" of social media.

The 54-year-old actor, who has daughter West, 16, and son Miller, 12, with ex-wife Téa Leoni, admits he only uses Twitter because he was "prodded to do it."

The 'Aquarius' star said: "I'm sceptical of Twitter. I'm prodded to do it, and so I do it. But I feel like there is an opportunity to screw up constantly. You have to be careful. It doesn't go away anymore! I tell my kids the same thing."

The 'Californication' star insists he doesn't try to be "the cool dad" at home and loves spending as much time as he can with the youngsters.

He said: "People always talked to me about quality time. I really think it's quantity time. I like my relationship with my kids to not be special. I'm their father; I'm not the cruise director. I like to have dinner and check in on them while they do their homework. This is life."

The 'X-Files' star added he used to worry a lot about his family when he first had children but is trying to learn to relax more as he gets older.

He told PEOPLE: "I'm getting better at it. At first I really didn't want to put my kids on a plane and wanted them to spend their entire lives in one city. Now I worry, but I don't worry so much. Eventually one gets to a point in life when it's only about what's happening now and experiencing it."
