Ed Sheeran lands 'medieval' TV role

Ed Sheeran is joining a "medieval TV show".

The 24-year-old musician has revealed he's secured himself his first acting credit and will appear in a new US TV show, which he promises will be "gruesome".

He confessed: "I have an acting job coming out after July.

"I can't say too much about it because the pilot just got picked up, which is good, but it's a TV show."

The 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker won himself a role in the as-yet unnamed show - which was recently given the green light following a pilot episode - because it's been penned by one of his pals.

He told The Sun newspaper: "It's a medieval TV show and it's really, really dark. It's gruesome and it's going to be fine because my friend wrote it.

"He had a musician in his last show and I said 'Oh, did he audition for that?' and he said, 'No, but I just thought he would be good in it.'

"So I said, 'Can you put me in a show next?'"

The fiery-haired singer recently filmed a cameo for Australian soap 'Home and Away' and has previously been vocal about his desire to star in HBO fantasy series 'Game of Thrones', although he has never got around to appearing in it because of his hectic schedule.

He said: "There were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which could have been cool. But every time they shoot it's the time I tour in the UK.

"But I've got that time off this year, so I'm going to hound them."
