Elvis Presley uneasy in Hollywood

Elvis Presley didn't feel "comfortable" in Hollywood.

The 'Can't Help Falling in Love' hitmaker spent a lot of time in Los Angeles for the sake of his career, but was always reluctant to have wife Priscilla with him because he worried about what it would do to his marriage.

She said: "Elvis dated actresses and people in Hollywood, but he was a southern gentleman, his roots were in the south, he wasn't Hollywood in the sense of what Hollywood is, he saw marriages failing in Hollywood, he didn't want it to affect me - he was very home grown, he really wanted to be back in the south, he wanted to be with people he felt comfortable with and he did not feel comfortable with Hollywood people, ever.

"He thought they were phoney, he was kind of onto them. He couldn't talk the talk, he was just there to do business, do his movies, do what he wanted to do."

The 70-year-old actress admits she initially felt insecure in her relationship with Elvis and worried he would be tempted away from her by one of his "leading ladies" when he returned to the US after completing his military service in Germany.

Speaking to Johnnie Walker on BBC Radio 2, she said: "Absolutely I did, especially him going back to the States, leading ladies - it was always on my mind, someone taking him away and having his heart, I really didn't feel like I had a chance once he went away and back to his career, but he kept calling me and reassuring me."
