Reese Witherspoon: Twitter is empowering

Reese Witherspoon feels "less vulnerable" since joining social media.

The 'Wild' star admits she is a lot more content about life since signing up for Twitter as she is able to make her own comments about rumours circulating across the micro blogging site.

She told Entertainment Weekly: "I feel so much less vulnerable than I used to. There were so many tabloids saying all kinds of wrong things, and I feel like it's almost all but gone. It still happens but it's really silly at this point."

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old actress - who has 16-year-old daughter Ava and 12-year-old son Deacon from a previous relationship and three-year-old son Tennessee with husband Jim Toth - previously insisted she is doing the best she can to raise her children in the spotlight and divide her time between work and family life.

She said: "No one's really doing it perfectly. I think you love your kids with your whole heart, and you do the best you possibly can. But, you know, right now I'm feeling sad missing my little 2-year-old, and my daughter's about to finish her freshman year of high school, and my son has a golf tournament this weekend that I hope I don't miss.

"There are some sacrifices you make, and it hurts your heart sometimes, but my kids tell me they're proud of what I've accomplished, and that just means everything. I grew up with a working mom, and I have so much respect for the things she did as a nurse and a teacher. I would never begrudge her that."
