Tom Jones thanks fans for support

Sir Tom Jones has thanked fans for their support following the death of his wife.

The 'It's Not Unusual' hitmaker was left devastated when his spouse Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, who was known as Linda, died after a "short, but fierce, battle with cancer" in Los Angeles earlier this month, and the kind words he has since been inundated with have "lifted" him amid his grief.

Under the heading "A little note from Tom", he wrote on his official website: "A heartfelt Thank You to all who sent notes of their sympathy and support to me and my family over the last couple of weeks.

"So many beautiful and meaningful things were said, and reading these genuine and lovely messages has lifted us all. See you soon.(sic)"

Tom - whose birth name is Thomas John Woodward - and his wife married at the age of just 17 in 1957, when they were expecting their first child together, with their son Mark, now 59, being born a month after their wedding.

Throughout his career - which saw the music legend have numerous extra-marital affairs with famous women and groupies - he described Linda as the "love of my life".

He previously said: "She loves being married to me and I love being married to her whatever happened."

Tom cancelled all of his planned concerts in Asia in April after discovering his spouse was "seriously ill".
