Dame Helen Mirren's tattoo tribute to Prince

Dame Helen Mirren showed off a tattoo tribute to Prince as she attended the White House Correspondent's Dinner.

The 'Eye In The Sky' star opted for a small purple "drawing" of the late singer's logo near her collarbone, matching it with a stunning floor length purple gown.

Speaking about the tribute, she told the Washington Post newspaper: "I admire great artists and he was a great artist.

"I'd love to say that Prince himself did it in 1988 or something, instead of me in the bathroom this morning!"

And there is a possibility that her temporary inking could become permanent one day as the 70-year-old actress previously revealed she wants to get a "whole sleeve" of snake tattoos on her arm.

She said: "I want to get another one, actually. I'd like a whole sleeve. As you get older, I think it's a better and better idea."

When asked to describe what sort of design she'd like, she added: "Some sort of curving pattern running up my arm. Maybe a snake. I quite like snakes."

Meanwhile, Helen - who attended the event with her husband Taylor Hackford - previously opened up about her marriage to the 71-year-old film director, insisting the success to their long-lasting marriage is building a house together.

She explained: "You build houses together. If anything's going to make you divorce, it'll be building a house together. If you get through that, that's a huge triumph.

"We're very different but I've learnt a huge amount from him, including returning phone calls. If he gets a phone call, he returns it immediately. He's one of those detail-orientated people. I admire him very much. But then, it's a two-way street. I'm sure he's also learnt things from me."
