Film sites and critics around the world are advising fans that "The Box" is best left unopened and have branded the flick one of the worst movies ever made.
Adapted from a classic Twilight Zone episode, a hard up couple (played by Cameron Diaz and James Marsden) receive a box as a gift from a stranger which bears irrevocable consequences.
By pressing a button on the box the couple will be presented with $1 million dollars, but pressing the button will simultaneously cause the death of someone, somewhere in the world.
The premise seems strong and highly watchable right? Well, cinema goers in the US have given the film a dismal 'F', according to ratings compiled by CinemaScore.
A spokesman for CinemaScore said, "People really thought this was a stinker, " and went on to claim that the audiences were particularly annoyed with the film's ending, adding, "I'd love to hear how they thought they were going to get good word-of-mouth."
Additionally film sites and critics worldwide have scored it unfavourably.
This is Director, Richard Kelly’s third film. Kelly made a solid debut with his arthouse flick "Donnie Darko," and was seen as one of Hollywood’s brightest talents, however his follow up "Southland Tales" was a major failure. With the feedback from "The Box" by both critics and fans, this will potentially finish his career.
Ouch!

easily the worst movie ive ever seen and hopefully will ever see
Reply@Lauren I'm sorry but the movies you mentioned are not "arthouse/indie". If you wish to watch some arthouse/indie then watch Eraserhead, The Naked Lunch, Brazil or Tetsuo. Not having a stab at you but just some suggestions for movies you might enjoy if you likes that sort of thing.
Reply2012 is a shocker!!!!
Replydoes not worth watching it on a big screen... P.S. Love Cameron Diaz! :-) mwa!
ReplyIt gets a rating of 6.4 at imdb. Hardly the worst film ever made. Go see imdb's bottom 100 for some real rubbish. How about Son of the Mask, The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek, Part II or The Tony Blair Witch Project? See what i mean? This is just headline catching. High School Musical was far worse.
