Winona: 'Mel Gibson called me an oven-dodger'

Winona Ryder has come out swinging, alleging in the January issue of GQ magazine that she knew Mel Gibson was anti-semitic and homophobic long before everyone else.

'I remember, like, fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And [Gibson] was really drunk,' Winona said of the notorious actor.

'I was with my friend, who's gay. [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke. And somehow it came up that I was Jewish.' Unfortunately, the slurs didn't stop there. 'He said something about "oven dodgers," but I didn't get it,' Winona admits of the insult, a disgusting reference to the gas chambers used during the Holocaust to murder Jewish prisoners of war.

It was at this point that Winona had her moment of revelation, adding 'I was like, "He's anti-Semitic and he's homophobic." No one believed me!'

This comes as a form of late justice for Winona, a once-bright star, tipped to make a comeback with her role in the upcoming "Black Swan." No stranger to controversy herself, Winona was charged with shoplifting in 2002, and faded quickly from the spotlight.

In "Black Swan," Winona plays an ageing ballerina, washed up and pushed out of the limelight by the pretty young things around her. A somewhat cruel parallel to her own life as an actress.
