"I dreamed a dream in time gone by..."

And so begins our first look at the new 'Les Miserables' teaser trailer (as well as the start of Susan Boyle's search for a new trademark song).

Starring a raft of celebs, including Anne Hathaway as Fantine (who has the honours of singing 'I Dreamed a Dream' in the teaser), Hugh Jackman as ex-prisoner Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, 'Les Mis' is directed by 'The King's Speech' Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper.

Hathaway hit headlines earlier this year when she underwent a dramatic transformation for the role, rapidly shedding both numerous kilos and her hair to play the role of Fantine, who turns to prostitution in order to survive in early 19th century France. Here we finally get to see the results of her dramatic efforts, and by the looks of it, her hard work has paid off. In one snippet you see a weeping Fantine as her hair is cut off on screen. We're hoping they got the shot it in the first take.

Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean who breaks parole to start life anew, eventually taking in Fantine and her daughter Cosette (Amanda Seyfried in later years), all the while being hunted down for decades by Inspector Javert for breaking parole (Crowe).

Sacha Baron Cohen also appears in the film (although not in the trailer) as the thieving inn-keeper Thénardier. Helena Bonham Carter joins him as his wife, Madame Thénardier. We can't wait to see what this pair will bring to the roles but we're pretty sure it'll be scene-stealing as always.

Les Miserables is the longest running musical ever, starting 27 years ago and showing to over 60 million fans in 42 countries.

We have a feeling the film will be just as epic as the musical.

Great cast, Australia's two best actors. Anne Hathaway is probably the best actress in the world imo, Amanda Siegfried is also amazing but has not been given a good vehicle until now and Cohen when directed by someone else is also terrific. Bonham Carter was born for this style of movie. I can't wait.

Far too cultured for Australians. All they care about is NRL, AFL, cricket, & boxing.
