I had the pleasure of interviewing famed British actor Hugh Grant this week as part of the promo trail for his latest film, 'The Pirates! Band of Misfits'.

The film is a quirky, stop-motion movie using animated clay figurines by Aardman, the TV and film production company that brought us 'Chicken Run' and also 'Wallace and Gromit'. In 'Pirates!' Pirate Captain -- an enthusiastic but hapless pirate voiced by Hugh Grant -- wants to beat his rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award.

So how does any of this figure into an interview for a G-rated film?

Well, the character Pirate Captain does have a "luxuriant beard", so it seemed like a natural question to ask Hugh Grant: "Would you ever consider growing a luxuriant beard?"

You can only imagine my surprised amusement at the unexpected response involving the English term "Bugger's Grips" and a pondering question posed by Grant about the inconvenient facial location of said "Bugger's Grips" if one was well... you get the idea. (You can watch his full response in the video interview above at the time mark 01:59).

While Grant's response was a little unexpected and left me blushing, I will also admit he probably didn't see my pirate pick-up lines coming. As for his favourite one? I'll go with the same one as me: "Arrrrrrrrrre you free tonight?"
