Naomi Watts And Matthew McConaughey Booed At Cannes

Far from the standing ovation they might have been expecting for their new film 'The Sea Of Trees', Naomi Watts and Matthew McConaughey were instead the first to be booed at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Their latest work, which follows a depressed man (McConaughey) finding his way out of a Japanese suicide forest after the death of his wife (Watts), drew a divided response from the Cannes crowd, with Variety Chief Film Critic Scott Foundas going so far as to label it "unpleasant" and deservedly booed":

It's a setback for Watts, who was canned for her role as Princess Diana in the namesake film, and hopefully just a blip for McConaughey, who has enjoyed a streak of successful films including The Dallas Buyers Club.

But it seems McConaughey isn't phased by the negative reaction, saying he believes people have a "right to boo" his films.

"All right, all right, all right. Anyone has as much right to boo as they do to ovate," said the actor at a press conference earlier today.

While the 45-year-old star's latest offering may not have received the praise he was hoping for, Matthew will be able to brush off his critics and return to his wife Camila Alves and children Levi, six, Vida, five, and Livingston, two, whom he credits with making him happy every single day.

He explained: "I get to wake up next to someone who I know loves me the way she does - my wife - who gave birth to our three beautiful, healthy children.

"I get to live in a nice place, and I have things to look forward to every day - work, play, and sometimes nothing at all."
