Is This Mel Gibson's New Girlfriend?

Fire up the water wheel because the rumour mill is churning and it looks like Mel Gibson's got himself a new girlfriend. Several sources are reporting that Gibson has started dating former equestrian vaulter and budding screenwriter Rosalind Ross.

According to People, the new couple recently spent time together at Gibson's home in Costa Rica. Gibson is 59 and Ross is 24. (Apropos of almost nothing, Gibson's oldest daughter, Hannah, is 35 years old.)

Currently, Ross, who studied writing and literature at Emerson College in Boston, is a writer for the Matador which airs on the El Rey Network. She also wrote the script for Lioness, an Iraq War drama to which Ellen Page is attached to star.

But before she was writing about a CIA agents and Iraq War veterans, Ross was a champion horse vaulter. For the uninitiated, that means she did gymnastics on top of moving horses. And she was good! She has been inducted into the American Vaulting Association's Hall of Fame. She also won the gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in 2010. A year later, Ross stripped down to pose nude alongside her equestrian partner Devon Maitozo in ESPN Magazine's 2011 Body Issue.

Gibson has kept a fairly low profile in recent years. His last public relationship was with Oksana Grigorieva with whom he shares custody of a 5-year-old daughter. Gibson and Grigorieva had an ugly breakup which saw both trading barbs in the media and Gibson admitting in court to having slapped Grigorieva during a fight.
