Brett Lee: From Fast Bowler To…Film Star?!

If you'd asked former Australian cricketer Brett Lee years ago if he would ever be starring in a film, he would have told you "absolutely not".

So, how is it that the former fast bowler is about to hit our screens in new Aussie film UnIndian?

"About 10 or 12 years ago, there were some offers coming from Bollywood, and I thought somewhere down the track that might be a bit of fun...after cricket," he tells Yahoo7 Movies.

"[This film] then came across, I loved the script and I loved how it's an Australian film...and it was a lot of fun."

In UnIndian, Lee plays Will, an Australian man teaching an Aussie lingo class for foreign university students, who falls for Meera, a divorced, single mother of Indian origin.

The pair must navigate the tricky cross-cultural waters of their blossoming love, set against the backdrop of the Australian multicultural way of life.

The fast bowler says that the way the film combines both Australian and Indian cultures was a big factor in persuading him to join the project.

"I love [India]. The people are so funny, they love having fun," he says.

While people may get a kick out of seeing Lee's familiar face in a fictional setting, the budding actor took his role very seriously, preparing with top acting coaches for weeks before filming started.

But the hardest part of his character to play? The fact that Will isn't very talented when it comes to cricket.

"I wanted Will to be a rubbish bowler..he's a rubbish cricketer," Lee laughs.
