It's been almost ten years since aliens came to take over Earth in Independence Day...and in 2016, they're coming back.

The first trailer for the film's sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, has just dropped, and it looks like the aliens are bigger and better than ever.

After the events of the original film, the nations of Earth has collaborated - using alien technology - to build an immense defence program to protect the planet.

However, the aliens are returning with a more advance and unprecedented force, which a few brave men and women must tackle to save the planet once again.

Jeff Goldblum returns in his role as David Levinson, while newcomer Liam Hemsworth takes over where Will Smith left off.

Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Charlotte Gainsbourg also star in the sequel, which arrives in Aussie cinemas from June 23, 2016.
