Charlie Hunnam replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in The Lost City Of Z

Charlie Hunnam will star in the 'The Lost City Of Z'.

The 34-year-old actor has taken over the lead role in the mythical adventure from Benedict Cumberbatch and is expected to start filming this summer, reports Empire Online.

The movie - which was also tipped to star Brad Pitt in the past - now has the actor on board to produce through his Plan B company with director and writer James Gray adapting the script from David Grann's book of the same name.

The story follows explorer Percy Fawcett - played by Hunnam - who ventures into the Amazon rainforest on a mapping quest in 1925 and allegedly discovers the Lost City of Z.

Upon his return he is mocked by his colleagues who dismiss his fraudulent claims prompting him to gather his son and a companion and go back to the city, never to return again.

Sienna Miller and Robert Pattinson are also tipped to appear in the movie.

Meanwhile, Hunnam - who previously starred in the sci-fi adventure 'Pacific Rim', directed by Guillermo del Toro - is also set to take on the lead role in Guy Ritchie's upcoming blockbuster 'Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur'.

He may be reunited with his 'Pacific Rim' co-star Idris Elba, who is up for the part of Merlin.

It is believed Warner Bros. is hoping to create a franchise that will last for six planned films.
