Bill Nighy 'got busted' smuggling Marmite

Bill Nighy "got busted" trying to sneak Marmite through airport security.

The 65-year-old actor, who stars alongside Dame Judi Dench in 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel', has revealed his love of Marmite and Yorkshire Tea, both of which he tried to take with him to India when filming the new movie.

He explained: "I know you'll say it's crazy to take tea to India and yes, it is. It's completely bonkers, really.

"The problem is that I'm addicted to Yorkshire Tea, and for me, nothing else can really hit the spot. I like it very strong - my grandmother used to say that with a good cup of tea you could stand the spoon up in it.

"I used to use two teabags in a cup, although I've weaned myself down to one now, which I'm quite proud of. But there's no taking the teabag out of the cup or anything - it stays there until the tea is somewhere between dark brown and orange. I take Yorkshire Tea with me wherever I go.

"And Marmite, well, you've just got to have it. I got busted at Heathrow this time, because I was carrying a jar that was too big to take through security."

However, luckily for Bill, an airport employee went out of his way to ensure he could enjoy the food spread while shooting scenes in India.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "So the young man who was accompanying me went round all the cafes in the terminal and collected 30 tiny jars, so I could dispense the Marmite into individual allowable sizes."
