Helen Mirren wants a role in Fast and Furious franchise

Dame Helen Mirren dreams of starring in the 'Fast and Furious' franchise.

The Oscar-winning actress has revealed she wants to play a "mad driver" in the action film series and says she's proven her credentials for the role by appearing on the popular motoring show 'Top Gear'.

The 69-year-old star shared: "My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie.

"I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie ... my claim to fame is I always do my own driving. I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time.

"I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I'll be in Fast and Furious 8!"

What's more, Dame Helen said she's a huge admirer of Vin Diesel, who is synonymous with the franchise.

She told Yahoo! Movies: "I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant. I love Vin Diesel. He's a great guy, smart - I love him.

"It's partly because of him I'd like to be in one, but also the driving."

Dame Helen's remarks come shortly after Vin Diesel predicted 'Furious 7' will win the Oscar for Best Picture.

He said: "Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie.

"It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."

Later, he added: "This will win best picture. There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing."
