1. Cate Blanchett wins the Best Actress Oscar for 'Blue Jasmine'

In the win that surprised no one but Our Cate herself, the Aussie actress made a clean sweep of awards season with this final win for the Woody Allen film. True to form, Cate's witty speech speared those people that believed that female-led films weren't financially viable, telling quipping, "The world is round people!" She also went on to thank 'everyone working at the Sydney Theatre Company for making her a better actress.' Can you say proud?

2. Catherine Martin picks up two Oscars for 'The Great Gatsby'

In another Aussie coup, Catherine Martin, wife of Baz Luhrman and costume and production designer behind 'The Great Gatsby' picked up two statues for her outstanding work on the film. In a quirky move, CM had to remove her speech from her bra to say her thank yous, noting it was an "Aussie thing to do." She picked up the Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

3. Ellen's #selfie that broke Twitter and won the internet

It was a game of stacks on as the host invited the biggest names in Hollywood to squish into her selfie live during the broadcast. From L-R Ellen managed to squeeze in Jared Leto (or at least half his face), Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ellen, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o and her brother Junior and last but not least Angelina Jolie. What you didn't see was Liza Minelli attempting to squeeze into the back of the pic, but missing out. Sucks to be Liza as the happy snap has gone viral, being retweeted over 1 million times.

4. J. Law tripping on the red carpet

Yup. She did it again. This time Jennifer Lawrence tripped over a plastic traffic cone on the Oscars red carpet, and had to be helped up by five people. As always, the 'American Hustle' actress laughed it off before proceeding up the red carpet. This year though, the actress was not caught on camera tripping inside the auditorium.

5. Ellen buying everyone pizza

In a hilarious legit move, Ellen bought the stars some pizza, noting how 'starving' they must have been. Unfortunately for Ellen, she didn't have any money on her, so later on she sent round Pharrell Williams's mountain hat to collect money from those who had some including Harvey Weinstein, Brad Pitt and Lupita Nyong'o.

6. Lupita and Meryl dancing with Pharrell Williams to 'Happy'

While 'Happy' didn't win for Best Original Song this year at the Oscars, Pharrell got his groove on with his gorgeous upbeat song, encouraging some of the front row audience members, including Meryl Streep and Lupita Nyong'o to join in on his festivities. We kinda wish we were there to dance along with Pharrell as well, sigh.

7. Jared Leto turning up with June Squibb on the red carpet and saying that they were dating

From rumours that he was dating Lupita Nyong'o, and now to June Squibb, Jared Leto is certainly playing the ladies man part with gusto. He interview-bombed June's red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest, playfully announcing to the host that they were an item.

"Let's put the rumours to rest," he quipped, adding, "We are indeed dating and it's great." Only thing is he's 42 and she's 84. Guess he likes the older women?

8. Lupita Nyong'o's Best Supporting Actress Oscar win

Kenyan actress Lupita was so gorgeous and gracious during her winner's speech, holding back tears at one point.

Lupita told the audience: "It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own. Steve McQueen, you charge everything you fashion with a breath of your own spirit. Thank you so much for putting me in this position. This has been the joy of my life. I’m certain that the dead are standing about you and watching and they are grateful and so am I."

9. 'The Wizard of Oz' tribute with Whoopi, Pink and Ellen

It started with Whoopi Goldberg flashing her black-and-white striped tights and ruby slippers, was followed by a stunning performance of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and closed out with a hilarious shot of Ellen in an OTT version of Glinda the Good Witch's 'Oz' costume. Well that's quite a way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the film.
