Now the seventh in the franchise, ‘Days of Future Past’ is a film full of action, humour, and a whole lot of heart.

The film it set both in the past and the future. We begin in Moscow. The year is 2023. War has ravaged the earth, humans have been enslaved, and almost all mutants have been hunted to the point of extinction.

It is here that Bishop (Ellen Page) and Shadowcat attempt to transport back to an earlier time so as to escape the Sentinels, robots created to rid the earth of mutants. X-Men Warpath, Blink, Colossus, Sunspot and Iceman are all killed while trying to protect Bishop and Shadowcat, who fortunately escape just in time.

Bishop and Shadowcat are transported to Mongolia, where they, and others, are in hiding, desperately devising a plan to alter history, thus preventing the ultimate doom they now face.

Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Storm (Halle Berry) join them here, which is when their plan begins to take fruition.

They plan to send Professor X back to the year 1973, in an attempt to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from killing Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), scientist and creator of the Sentinels, whose death ultimately catalysed their creation, and in turn, the ultimate demise of the earth and all mutants.

Wolverine offers to go back in the Professor’s place, due to his regenerative powers, and also because Professor X’s condition would not physically allow him to go back that many decades.

It is here that the story really begins to take off. As Wolverine attempts to fulfill the plan, he is met with a number of complications that threaten its success. Time is also running out back in the year 2023, with the Sentinels closing in on the mutants.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ was an impressive film, and followed on well from it’s predecessor ‘X-Men: First Class.’

It starred an incredible cast, both with actors from the original and newer films, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and more.

The musical score complemented the intensity of the film, with the dark undertones balanced out with some genuinely funny moments (thanks to Evan Peters’ hilarious portrayal of Peter/Quicksilver).

Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence all gave outstanding performances. I was also particularly impressed with James McAvoy’s performance. His ability to show the immense pain, struggle and heartbreak that Professor X was going through, particularly with regards to Raven/Mystique leaving, was nothing short of impressive.

All in all it was an incredible film. I believe that X-Men fans will really appreciate the film, whereas individuals who have not seen the prior films in the franchise may be left feeling a little lost and overwhelmed.
