Disney planning live-action 'Winnie the Pooh' film

The studio has signed Alex Ross Perry — whose indie feature Listen Up Philip, which he wrote and directed, played the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and whose latest film, Queen of Earth, debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival in February.

He will pen the adaptation, which is in the early stages of development. In the new version, Christopher Robin, Winnie’s human pal, will return as an adult to revisit Pooh’s hangout in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Disney has produced a series of animated Pooh features, beginning with 1977’s The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, a compilation film that combined a series of earlier short films, 1966’s Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, 1968’s Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and 1974’sWinnie the Pooh and Tigger Too.
